Teardown: Lenovo 150W Three-Port USB-C GaN Adapter (MCFX150A3) — PFC+HFB, Infineon GaN, 140W Per Port

2026-10-25 · Compiled by Best IT Parts from public industry reporting

Lenovo's MCFX150A3 is a 150 W three-port USB-C GaN adapter. USB-C1 and USB-C2 each deliver up to 140 W (28 V/5 A) and are interchangeable; USB-C3 provides 65 W. With all three ports loaded, the adapter allocates 150 W in total, for example 65 W + 65 W + 20 W. Supported protocols include USB PD 3.2 with PPS and AVS, QC3+/QC5, and Lenovo and moto private fast charging. Input is 100–240 V at 2.0 A. The adapter is rated for continuous full load at 40°C, carries 1.5x rated-power peak redundancy, and its leakage current is one-fifth of the applicable national standard limit. Earlier testing held 28 V/5 A (about 140 W) for 60 hours without derating, with a maximum case temperature near 62°C.

The housing measures 83.82 x 65.10 x 32.87 mm and weighs 305.3 g. The bundled 180 cm cable is 4.32 mm in diameter, weighs 73.5 g and carries a 240 W EPR e-marker.

The circuit is a two-stage PFC plus HFB architecture. Control comes from an Infineon XDPS2BF11 combined PFC/HFB controller in a DSO-14 package. The PFC switch is an Infineon IGL65R080D2 CoolGaN G5 device rated 650 V with 100 mΩ maximum on-resistance, while the HFB half-bridge uses an IGI65D1414A integrating two 650 V, 140 mΩ GaN transistors. Synchronous rectification uses a 100 V, 3.2 mΩ PW038N10ESL, followed by 35 V 560 µF and 35 V 330 µF solid output capacitors.

The secondary side splits into three buck daughterboards, each built around a Southchip SC8002 buck controller, a Hynetek HUSB362 PD 3.1 EPR protocol chip and a 4.7 µH inductor. Copper heatsinks clamp both faces of the PCB, the assembly is potted with thermal compound, and the input uses a grounded three-prong plug.
